Women Came Together To Remind Trump He Works For Them

From Wisconsin to Tokyo, Berlin to Nairobi, over 2.6 million people joined various protests on Saturday to show solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington, DC. According to police reports, despite the 500,000 people protesting in the US capital, no arrests were made during the peaceful activism. Meanwhile, Los Angeles hosted a march of 750,000 people, larger than the flagship protest, and international cities like London drew over 100,000 people.

After several celebrity speakers aired their grievances, marchers on the National Mall made time for bold political statements as well as comfort and humor. Conversations on Black Lives Matter and Native American rights were present alongside broader discussions on gender equality and women’s reproductive rights, all while people wore pink “pussyhats” – and yes, that’s their official name. And with protest movements and counterparts all over the globe, the Women’s March quickly eclipsed President Trump’s inauguration the day before, both in coverage and people in attendance. The crowds, which were inclusive to all genders, races and nationalities, focused on the importance of women’s rights, an issue they felt could come under threat from Donald Trump’s presidency. But sometimes the best way to convey that is with a hilarious protest sign. To quote a chant we overheard on Constitution Avenue, “He’s orange! He’s gross! He lost the popular vote!”
